MCT 2004 Program Requirements

Reminder: Renew your certification by October 31, 2003, for the 2004 MCT Program.

MCTs will be required to fulfill annual program requirements during the MCT 2004 Program year in order to renew into the MCT 2005 Program. The requirements ensure that all MCTs maintain broad technical knowledge and up-to-date teaching skills.

Reporting of how you fulfill program requirements is based on the honor system. You are responsible for keeping this information in your own records. You will not be asked to mail or fax proof of delivery days or Continuing Education Credits (CECs) during the program year, but you will use these records to enter your delivery days and earned CECs in the MCT Enrollment Tool when you renew each year.

Microsoft will conduct a random audit each year of approximately five percent of the MCT community to ensure MCTs are fulfilling the requirements. Review the chart below for more information about program requirements, or review Section 3 of the MCT Program Guide, available in multiple languages.

MCT Program renewal begins October 1, 2003, and runs through October 31, 2003. If you are renewing into the MCT program for 2004, ensure that you have met the 2003 program requirements.

More information is available on the MCT FAQ page.

2004 Program Requirements
Requirement Steps to take
Maintain Premier MCP Certification: This requirement ensures that you have a broad and up-to-date technical base of skills from which to teach, and acknowledges your expertise in working with Microsoft products and technologies. MCTs must have at least one of these certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) on Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000
Deliver at least 80 hours of Microsoft training courses: Updated from the 2003 requirement of delivering 10 modules each of two courses, this requirement will help you to hone your teaching methods and become even more skilled in the art of delivering solid instructional messages to technology professionals. Courses may be delivered in any venue, using any of the following types of Microsoft courseware:
  • Official Microsoft Learning Products (including Microsoft Official Courses, Microsoft Official Workshops, Microsoft Official Seminars, Microsoft Official Clinics); view more information about this new product portfolio
  • Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) or Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF)

To prove your training delivery days, you must complete a Delivery Days Confirmation form, which must be signed by your employer and include the course name, date, and duration.

Earn a minimum of 20 professional CECs: We've combined technical and instructional CECs to give you more flexibility in how you apply your time toward professional development. This requirement allows you to stay abreast of training and technology developments. Not only are you furthering your career as a trainer, but also as an IT professional. Professional CECs may be earned in the following ways:
  • Pass a Microsoft certification or CompTIA Security+ exam (5 credits)
  • Earn the MSF Practitioner endorsement (5 credits)
  • Attend a Microsoft course (1 credit per day)
  • Attend a technical conference covering Microsoft technologies (1 credit per day)
  • Apply real-world application of skills (1 credit for each 8 hours of billable time)
  • Attend an MCT readiness event (1 credit per day)
  • Attend a trainer skills course, workshop, or conference (1 credit per day)

Note: If you have an MCSD on Microsoft Visual Studio® 6.0 credential, you will receive 15 bonus CECs if you upgrade to MCSD for Microsoft .NET by October 31, 2003. (The MCSD for Microsoft .NET credential has replaced the MCSD for Visual Studio 6.0 credential.)
